DMS and DMDS for Steamcrackers

Coke in pyrolosis tubes or coils is a common problem encountered in steamcrackers. To minimize coke formation, Arkema offers a line of sulfur products including: Dimethyl Sulfide (DMS) and Dimethyl Disulfide (DMDS). Both products can be used to reduce coke formation and improve plant performance.

Dimethyl Sulfide (DMS) is widely used as an anti-coking agent in ethylene furnaces. Arkema manufactures DMS in Beaumont, TX and it is readily available in cylinders, tank trucks or rail cars.

Dimethyl Disulfide (DMDS), well known as a highly efficient pre-sulfiding agent for catalysts, is also very effective in reducing coke and carbon monoxide formation in steamcrackers. DMDS can be added continuously, reducing the number of decoking operations and thus improving overall plant efficiency and performance.
