Mercaptans
Arkema was the first company to produce synthetic mercaptans, used in such key products as agricultural pesticides and animal feed. Mercaptans are also used as polymerization modifiers by the plastics and rubber industries, for petroleum and gas processing, in gas odorants, and in the production of antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals.

Organosulfur Products
Our organosulfur products include sulfides and disulfides, thioglycolic acid (TGA), thioglycolate esters, sulfonic acids, and chlorides. We're the only domestic producer of methane sulfonic acid (MSA), methane sulfonyls chloride (MSC), and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS).
MSA and MSC are used in a variety of applications, including electroplating of printed circuits and specialty automotive products, as catalysts in chemical synthesis, in paints and coatings, in chemical processing and in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals.
DMDS and DMS (dimethylsulfide) are used for petroleum refinery catalyst conditioning and ethylene furnace sulfiding, natural gas deep-well sulfur recovery, and in the manufacture of agricultural products and chemical intermediates.
Polysulfides are high sulfur content products that are used in catalyst sulfiding as an extreme pressure additive in metal working fluids, and in gear oil applications.
Vultac® vulcanization agents help enhance rubber product performance by enhancing aging properties and assisting co-vulcanization of blends. Vultacs 2,3,5,7 and 710 are alkyl phenol disulfides offering various amounts of chemically bound sulfur for vulcanization. These alkyl phenol disulfides exhibit vulcanizing activity roughly proportional to sulfur content. Their structure gives all Vultacs a high solubility in a variety of rubbers. Vultacs work well in systems where the base rubber contains chlorine. Vultacs can be used as either complete or partial replacements for sulfur or thirams.
