Biodiesel

Biodiesel is a new clean alternative fuel produced from renewable resources. Long-term testings have demonstrated that Kynar® Flex PVDF 2850-07 shows excellent resistance to Biodiesels blends. Kynar Flex® resins, immersed up to 3000hrs in Biodiesel blends at 40°C, have seen no loss of physical properties, minimal length change and minimal swelling (Table 1). The fluoropolymers nature of Kynar Flex 2850-07 repels diesel, biodiesel and their blends.

Typically plastic materials such as Polyethylene will swell in presence of gasoline and diesel. Long-term exposure results then in a loss of the mechanical resistance of these plastics. Because of its fluoropolymers nature, Kynar® PVDF does not absorb diesel and keep its strength and physical properties. In fact because Kynar® PVDF can crystallize with time, the experiment has demoinstrated that Kynar® PVDF was getting stronger under the conditions of the testing. The tensile strength increase by more than 7% in 8 weeks.

Graph 2: Kynar Flex® PVDF gain is minimal (<0.1%) in Diesel and Biodiesel fuels for a period of 16 weeks.
