Altuglas International ResearchOverview | Recent Innovations New Innovations in Polymers
Expanding into new markets, Altuglas International has made a strong push into new applications with new products such as:
Solarkote® film and capstock resins combine high gloss, mar resistance and weathering performance with a pleasing appearance, taking acrylic surfacing to a new level. Variations in appearance range from clear and colorless to an opaque granite look.
Solarkote® T acrylic capstock enhances heavy-gauge thermoformed products. This high performance polyolefin capstock system allows manufactures to create a TPO based sheet structure with a Class A acrylic first surface. Solarkote® T delivers cost effective performance for large part thermoforming applications that require superior weathering and surface properties.
Plexiglas® CR30 acrylic resin affords the medical device manufacturer a chemical resistant resin for device applications where the use of lipids, IPA and antiseptics may lead to stress cracking. Plexiglas® CR30 is a product of choice for transparent medical devices tasked with performing in aggressive chemical environments. Our global development teams are at the crossroads of technology and creativity, using their vision and innovation to help bring new products to market and new performance to existing ones. Our efforts in sustainable, biobased resin engineering have led us to the development of two new families of products. The first represents a greener alternative to our world-recognized Plexiglas® acrylic resins. The other represents an innovative and unique family of high impact, high performance resins.
Plexiglas® Rnew biobased acrylic resins is a family of transparent thermoplastic polymers based on blends of Poly(methylmethacrylate) and Poly(lactic acid). Plexiglas® Rnew maintains similar property characteristics to standard acrylics, while incorporating high levels of renewable carbon.
Plexiglas® High-performance biobased acrylic resins provide outstanding impact strength and chemical resistance characteristics, along with high melt flow for easy processing.
Plexiglas® VOD® acrylic resin plays an important role in the cost-effective manufacture of high-capacity DVDs.
Plexiglas® Frosted and Clear-Edge Frosted sheet products give designers new tools for producing attractive retail displays. The surface texture of the sheet brings an attractive look and feel while hiding fingerprints and scratches.
Plexiglas® EdgeFX™ acrylic sheet has unique light control properties. The dichromatic EdgeFX™ acrylic sheet product changes color when viewing the edges at different angles, which enables designers to create an eye-catching look for merchandising displays.
Plexiglas® LD (Light Diffusing) acrylic sheet is a breakthrough technology that effectively hides the pinpoint backlighting by light emitting diodes (LEDs) while matching the color and transmission properties of traditionally used monolithic acrylic sheet. This unique feature is highly desirable for use in illuminated channel letter signs where LEDs are replacing more traditional light sources such as fluorescent and neon.
Plexiglas ELiT® (Edge LiT Technology) acrylic sheet eliminates the need for bulky display boxes by allowing the light box manufacturer to conceal fluorescent tubes in the side profile trim rather than place them behind the sheet, allowing for shallower signs with a slimmer and sleeker look.
Tuffak® CMF polycarbonate sheet is used in a number of applications including abrasion-resistant NASCAR® windshield applications. This product is easily formed into various contour shapes.
