Lotryl Resins Protectives Gloves, Gowns, and Garments

GLOVES

Lotryl™ Resins can be used for the following glove applications:
  • Veterinary gloves
  • Medical Gloves
  • Gloves for food contact
  • Gloves to prevent fingermarks
  • Gloves for working in clean rooms
  • Disposable protective gloves
For glove applications Arkema has developed two grades of Lotryl™ Resin.

Properties Grade Type Melt flow index (190°C-2,16 kg) NFT 51-016 g/10 mn Comonomer content (by weight) (Arkema method) % Specific gravity at 23°C (NFT 51-063) g/cm3 Melting point (NFT 51-223) °C
17 BG 04 EBA* 3,5 - 4,5 15 - 180 .94 89
14 MG 02 EMA** 2 - 3 12 - 14,5 0.96 89

EBA* = ethylene butyl acrylate copolymer EMA** = ethylene methyl acrylate copolymer

Lotryl™ 17 BG 04 Resin should be used blended with 10 to 30% of film quality LDPE as it produces a blocky film in its pure state.

Lotryl™ 14 MG 02 Resin is a formulated product, ready to use.

Properties important in gloves are:
  • Sensitivity- glove must conform to finger and allow sensation
  • Seal strength- avoids contamination.
  • Anti Block- glove opens easily.
In the table below these properties are compared to polyolefins.

Processing

Lotryl™ Resins can be blown film and cast film extruded on the same equipment used for LDPE or other ethylene copolymers.

Hygiene Films

I - Hygiene films made with Lotryl™ Resins are used in disposable products such as:
  • Operating clothes
  • Diapers
  • Feminine hygiene
II - Properties of Lotryl™ Resins

Cast film polyethylene requires additional processing, with an embossed chill roll, to improve the comfort properties and noise performance. This process requires additional manufacturing and capital expenses. This additional process is not needed with Lotryl resins.

Blown film extruded Lotryl™ Resins films possess these qualities:
  • Comfort
  • Low noise (rustle)
  • Heat sealable
III - Position of Lotryl™ Resins compared with other polyolefins

In the table below competitive products produced by blown film extrusion are compared.
