Arkema Names Kalcor Coatings Company New Kynar Aquatec? Trademark Licensee

Arkema Inc. has announced that Kalcor Coatings Company of Willoughby, Ohio has become a trademark licensee of Kynar Aquatec® PVDF emulsion.

Kynar Aquatec® PVDF emulsion is a water-based fluoropolymer developed to deliver durability and performance similar to Kynar 500® PVDF resin-based coatings.

However, rather than requiring high temperature factory baking, coatings based on Kynar Aquatec® cure at lower temperatures, and can be applied to a wider variety of substrates, including metal, wood, PVC and fiberglass.

Emulsion Used in Coatings for Plastics

Founded in 1961, Kalcor designs and manufactures OEM and specialty coatings for the construction, transportation, rubber/tire, graphic arts, and fabricated metal markets. The Kynar Aquatec® emulsion is used in the company’s growing line of high performance specialty coatings for plastics marketed to OEM manufacturers globally.

Paints and coatings based on waterborne Kynar Aquatec® PVDF emulsions offer low VOC emissions, exceptional color stability and weatherability, and excellent resistance to mildew and dirt buildup.

According to Kalcor President, Cory Zucker, the company has had a long-standing relationship with Arkema. “We were quite familiar with Kynar 500®. It’s an industry standard, a time-proven, high performance solvent-based product.

“However, it’s not for every application,” he says, “so we were thrilled to hear Arkema was developing a water-based version of the same technology, and immediately became interested in working with it because of the benefits it offered. In this regard, the Arkema technical staff has been very supportive as we’ve worked to integrate this technology into the solutions we provide our customers.”

Provides Opportunity for New Applications
“We design and formulate coatings that solve customer problems,” he continues. “As a result, we custom engineer our products to meet specific needs. The opportunity to include Kynar Aquatec® in formulations opens a whole new world of applications.”
