In the selection of an organic peroxide the physical form is also very important to consider. The physical form of the peroxide has a major impact on productivity, daily operations and logistics. The choice of peroxide will depend upon the polymerization process, local regulations and safety issues. Solutions are available to facilitate the handling of peroxides with low decomposition temperatures.
Organic peroxides are solids or liquids but they can be delivered in a solvent acting as a phlegmatizer. Typical solvents are isododecane, OMS, mineral oils, etc. Some organic peroxides can also be delivered in water phase to improve safety (frozen and liquid aqueous emulsions) or to improve handling of the solid peroxides (aqueous suspensions).
