It is important to keep Acrylic Monomers safely contained and use engineering controls to prevent the release of any materials into the environment. Acrylic Monomers are reactive substances and have a very strong, characteristic odor. Training is an essential part of our Product Stewardship Program. Arkema participates in several industry trade groups to share safety and handling information and experiences. These trade organizations develop brochures and videotapes that we share with our customers, to educate and provide guidance on the safe handling of monomers. Our representatives also visit customer locations to provide training on the safety and handling of our products. A key part of our Product Stewardship Program is preventing the release of Acrylic Monomers into the environment. At our storage facilities, all Acrylic Monomers are handled in closed systems. Vapors which are generated from loading tanks, rail cars, and tank trucks are contained and transferred to vapor containment systems to prevent release into the environment. We also require our storage terminals and trucking companies to carry an agent to treat small spills in the unlikely event that they were to occur. The Product Stewardship Program helps us to provide a quality product to our customers safely and efficiently. It is the policy of the Acrylic Monomers Business Unit to not supply product to customers for use in medical/dental applications. These applications include, but are not limited to, dental preparation, finger nail preparation, contact lenses, or prosthetics.
